We had an absolute blast. Memere wore Jake's Cam Neely jersey to the game, and within 5 minutes of being in the Garden, Bruins alum Lyndon Byers walked up to her, tapped her on the shoulder and goes "I used to protect that guy, you know!" Memere and LB chatted about hockey and Canada for the next 15 minutes, hilarious!

Hockey Family
Our family is a hockey family. Usually it's just Jake and I going to all of the Bruins home games here in Boston, but yesterday we had a very special day and got to take Jake's grandmother, Memere Rita, to the Bruins vs. Lightening game!
We had an absolute blast. Memere and LB chatted about hockey and Canada for the next 15 minutes, hilarious!
When the game started, the Bruins were really blowing in the first period. Memere was annoyed at all of the penalties and didn't like the big McQuaid fight ("the refs let them fight toooooo long!") We were all completely stoked when the B's started to turn it around and ended up winning 3-2! It was an awesome day, and we can't wait to take Memere to another game.

Here's to the BRUINS!
My heart still hurts over the Bruins' loss to the Caps last night. Hubs & I have just wrapped up our third year as season ticket holders, and it was really sad to leave the Garden last night knowing we won't be back until September or October!
After the game, about a third of the people in the stands booed our beloved B's and walked out. The rest of us stayed behind, stood, clapped and cheered on the team that we followed closely for the past seven months. It was emotional!
With the B's playing some seriously great hockey down on the ice this year, we've had another great run up in the balcony cheering them on. Even though there's no cup for the Bruins this year, we have lots of fun memories to last us through the summer. Here's a little recap of our nights with the B's.

Lightening McQueen!
One of my favorite things about this summer so far are the kids birthday parties that my hubby and I get to go to. Last weekend we had a blast at Lex's 3rd birthday party. The theme was "Cars," his favorite movie. I can't take credit for any of these treats, they were all baked and decorated by our friend Monica, but the cake and cupcakes were so cute, I have to share!
Monica bought a special Cars cake pan and did the decorating herself - red icing is hard to make, but even though it looks a little pink, Lex loved his cake.
The cupcakes were great- kid-friendly chocolate and vanilla were a huge hit. The kids (and big kids like my hubs) were loving the cupcakes with little cars on top.
After the birthday party we headed to a friend's cocktail party. When my father-in-law walked in, he presented the ultimate treat plate....
Bruins cookies!!!! The Stanley Cup celebration is going to continue all summer long. GO BRUINS!!!

Kappa Tuesday - Mini Carrot Cupcakes
A couple of my college sorority sisters and I have a great tradition of meeting for dinner, dessert and wine every other Tuesday. We rotate apartments, and rotate duties. Each of the three of us provide one of the three key elements :) This past Tuesday, dinner was pasta with homemade sauce and a garden salad. For wine, we tried Ruffino Chianti, and for dessert, ohhhh dessert, gourmet mini carrot cupcakes with caramel cream cheese frosting. HEAVEN!
These beauties were leftovers from my friend's Easter dinner. Her aunt, Maura Kilpatrick, is an amazing pastry chef here in Boston, baking up treats at Sofra Bakery, and Oleana. I didn't see carrot cake on the Sofra menu, but if the other items match the quality of these cupcakes, my advice is to RUN THERE and try something!
Friends, wine, cupcakes, mid-week bliss.
(PS - The Bruins just beat the Canadiens in Round 1 of the Playoffs and I am so over-filled with bliss you have no idea. GO BRUINS!!!!)
